an open apology:

to anyone who gave lily a birthday present, i would like to apologize that the written thank you notes are still sitting on my desk unsent. the delimma, better late than never or trash em?

to anyone who has emailed my personal address with no response, i realized i had 919 emails in my inbox and in my moment of being overwhelmed i selected 'all' and hit 'archive'

Declare email bankrupcy. Instead of 'archive', hit 'delete' and start over. I've done that from time to time and it's very liberating. :)

I think the standard modern day rule of etiquitte is that if the giver gave the gift in person, you can simply thank them in person. But that if the gift arrived in the mail, simply to assure the person that it arrived, the thank you should also arrive via mail. Or email. But then that doesn't help with your second problem.

I say trash it all. We still love you anyway and if I got a thank you note from you that might send me over the edge. You are already WAY too overachieving : )

I say yes to the thank you notes and no to the emails... delete and start over!
